An elephant in eastern India has sparked complaints from motorists
who accuse it of blocking traffic and refusing to allow vehicles to
pass unless drivers give it food.
FALLBROOK, Calif. -- Nonprofit organization Fallbrook After The
Ashes is spearheading a fundraising street fair event dedicated to
helping victims of the California wildfires.
STOCKTON, Calif. --The telegram arrived on Nov. 15, 1969: "Private
First Class Johnny O Brooks was slightly wounded in action," it
began. Flora Brooks, 20 and recently married, read on, not knowing
then how much her life was about to change. "Since he is not,
repeat not seriously injured, no further reports will be
furnished," the telegram concluded.
Alice L. Baumann, 86, of Watertown, died Thursday afternoon, Sept.
27, 2007, at the Watertown Memorial Hospital, from pneumonia,
following a major stroke. She was proud to have survived two
courageous bouts with cancer.
